Mac image format

This is one of those beginner level queries. I often send image files to a colleague who is a professional graphics person and printer using PCs. He complains that images sent from Mac computers are always zipped, and have to be unzipped. In a test on my wife's PC I found that to be true. Can someone explain for me how images are sent from Macs to Macs and PCs, and received on Macs from Macs and PCs. Is there still a "send Windows-friendly" attachments option somewhere?

I answered this elsewhere, but the short version is that multiple pictures sent in one message to a PC user will automatically be zipped in order to ensure that the receiver gets it properly. Individual images aren't usually zipped unless they are in a non-standard format.
