MAIL Program - Suggested address pops up that I can't get rid of.

In Mail 9.1, OSX 10.11.1 (El Capitan), addresses pop up when I start populating the address field. This is helpful unless it is an obsolete address that can get chosen accidentally.

I have gone to Window / Previous Recipients, and deleted the address here but it keeps popping as one of the options when I start to type the address.

Can anyone tell me how to purge it from wherever it is lurking :)posting.php?mode=post&f=4#

Thanks Jim

If you've cleaned the previous Recipients file, then the next place to look is your contacts. Mail can only draw it from one of those two sources.

I realized where the address is coming from. It comes from an address it "Found in Mil". When suggested address pop up (from "Previous recipients" ) the other ones are listed just after the ones that it gets from "Previous Recipients".

Is there a way to have the Mail program NOT suggest addresses it found in old received mail? I keep a lot of old mail and there are often defunct addresses in there and i don't want them being suggested.

Periodic cleaning of the Previous Recipients list.

You might consider archiving mail older than [X], that would keep it accessible when needed but preclude obsolete addresses being added.
