I watched the keynote this morning and the new MacBook Pro models look pretty cool. But then off to the Apple Canada web site to see what they really cost and I was left pretty confused. As an example, lets just focus on the bottom model for discussion - the one without the new Touch Bar feature. They compared this to the MacBook Air in the keynote.
First, a visit to the US online store...
So the low price in the US is $1499. The price of the MacBook Air in Canada is $1499
Now looking at the same device on the Canadian Apple store shows...
So just a $100 more in Canada which isn't too shocking. Scrolling down this "Tech Specs" page describes this choice as a 2.0 GHz machine with 256 GB of storage. (A bit of an improvement over the MacBook Air's 1.6 GHz processor for $100 less in Canada).
But wait - What if you decide to buy? Clicking on the "Buy" button gives you completely different pricing.
Suddenly this very same model costs $300 more! And this page (scrolled down) reveals another model with a slower processor and half the storage at almost the same price ($50 less actually) than the "base" model we have been comparing.
Hopefully just "early days" glitches in setting up their website, or have I missed something entirely?
