So I have 3 macs...all happy.
Each one has a different operating system
snow leopard
el capitan
high sierra

Snow leopard will always stay as is ....until it dies.
Main reason...I love iphotos

El capitan and HIgh Sierra...I don't recall getting updates to the newest operating system on these 2 macs. Is it necessary to update to Mojave?

I am wondering same thing. I've heard its best to wait a few weeks after an update is released before downloading it. Does anyone know whether its advisable to update to Mojave yet or not.

I have stopped up grading OS because since moving away from Yosemite.
I have lost the use of Final Cut Pro. and the functionality of Illustrator, Dreamweaver,(IknowIknow) it is time to move up to WordfPress. The other apps I have lost funcionality are..... Photoshop, Excel, and Word.

In a recent comment to an "on line" Apple Techy I told him I did not want to move up because of loosing functionality..... The response was ... "I understand"

I rest my case.

You can update the High Sierra machine to Mojave by simply visiting the Mac App Store. On machines that are capable of upgrading to it, you should — for security reasons if for no other purpose. Speaking of which, please be sure to take that Snow Leopard machine offline (disconnected from the internet) as soon as possible — there are major security issues with SL that open the door to ransomware and malware. At some point more and more of iPhotos services will not work, so I’d strongly recommend that you move at least a copy of your iPhoto library to the Photos app on the newer machines to protect them from potential loss or obsolescence. The Photos app is pretty great now, you should give it another try.

To be fair, the reason you have “lost functionality” with these programs is because you do not keep up with updates to these programs. The latest version of FCP is $200, a fraction of what you paid in total for your old version. Illustrator and Photoshop CS still work back to version CS3 ... which came out in 2007. You could be using Photoshop’s latest version for $12 a month. Likewise, Microsoft Office works fine on the latest systems ... if you’d upgrade. With Adobe, you have to go the subscription route — but compared to the cost of buying it, it’s a bargain (the full suite of CC apps, somewhat less so). With Microsoft, you have the choice of buying a regular license or subscribing for $8/month — which includes all the apps in the Office Suite across iOS and Mac, lots of cloud storage for your documents, and more.

This is a self-inflicted problem.
