A rant! Connecting my wife's M2 MacBook Air to an ethernet cable.

I wanted to connect my wife's M2 MacBook Air to an ethernet cable and our old kludge of USB-C to USB-A dongle connected to USB-A to ethernet port dongle limited speed to 100 Mbps. So I visited London Drugs today and picked up Apple's "Thunderbolt to ethernet" adapter which is supposed to support gigabit speeds. Got home and found out it was Thunderbolt 2! My 2017 iMac had Thunderbolt 3 ports and I believe the 2018 MacBook Air had TB 3 ports. So why doesn't Apple even make a USB-C/Thunderbolt 3/Thunderbolt 4 to ethernet adapter? Fortunately one LD store has 1 suitable Logiix adapter in stock which I have on order. But how is the rest of the world connecting their MB Airs to an ethernet cable? End of rant! I feel so much better.

Thunderbolt 2 was for machines like my 2012 MacBook Pro. I'm glad someone's still selling adapters for that machine! :)

Apple currently sells a TB3 to Ethernet adapter for C$39 (I think it is part #MD463ZM/A). Normally LD stores would have that, but either the clerk didn't know the difference or they didn't happen to have any of the right one in stock. LD's website is showing "limited stock" in our two largest stores (downtown and Tillicum Centre) and none in our smaller stores (Colwood, Quadra/McKenzie). "Limited Stock" is code for "very few if any." :)

I have scrolled through the Apple Canada website are for cables etc. and can not see such a device. I tried searching for that part number and it goes nowhere. I also tried searching for "thunderbolt 3 to ethernet" and it returns only 3rd party devices. In any case I have returned the Apple TB 2 to ethernet adapter to LD and bought one of their Logiix TB3 to ethernet adapters.

I am pretty sure that is Thunderbolt 2 with the older size connector. I think LD carries these so it would be easy enough to check out if one was near one of their stores. :)
