Beginner email question

Today I see a message window in Mail 13.4 saying "Can't connect to the account "Shaw"" and requests a password. This has happened in the past occasionally but always seemed to resolve itself before I had to go digging for a password. I am receiving mail to addresses under other domains, and am able to access Shaw webmail. There was a message on the Shaw help line saying there were email outages, but no longer. I have tried restarting Mail, and restarting WIFI with no effect. I have tried every password I can think of but no go. My beginner question is this: Is the password required by Shaw? (A tech I spoke to did not think so) Or is it required by Mail? If that is the case, how can I be reminded of it, or change it? Thanks -

I guess the answer must be that the password is required by Shaw, but the Rogerstogetherwithshaw tech person was unable to help me. I had thought about deleting and then adding the email account, and online suggestions agreed, so I tried that and it is working again . . . and the password is written down.

If your only email is this Shaw account I would strongly suggest you take steps to replace it with some other email such as iCloud (Apple), Outlook (Microsoft) or GMail (Google). There is no future with Shaw email as has been stated for almost a year now with the take over of Shaw by Rogers. Lost of times Shaw mail simply will not receive or send. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Rogers does not offer any email services and the Shaw email was dropped by Shaw well before Rogers did the take over. Some small operation in Texas is now keeping it afloat since they took it over from Shaw. Help is available thru this forum to get you individuals who will come to your home and transfer over your email files from the Shaw site or your computer and help you set up an alternative account. I did this almost a year ago now and from experience recommend you do this sooner than later. One day Shaw email will simply not be there to use or access and you will loose whatever emails records you retain in Shaw.

I would hope Rogets will give everyone a decent amount of time to transition their email away from Shaw when they finally let us know what the plan is, but I have a feeling that my work voicemail is going to be full for the weeks or months between when they announce the termination date and the termination date … and beyond … there are a lot of people who sadly still rely on (insecure and easily hacked) Shaw email and there’s only (to my knowledge) about eight people who work to assist folks in-home with issues like this, so … you know … do the math … :)
