Can't send email

My iPhone 6s (latest iOS) won't send emails. It puts outgoing emails in the Outbox and tells me "the recipient "XXX@XXX.XXX" was rejected by the server." Originally I thought the problem was only when I was using cellular but it won't send on wifi either. I have no problems sending emails from my iPad (latest iOS) or my MacBook Pro (OS 10.11.6) on the same Islandnet POP account. My wife and I use the same account on all our Apple devices and I've double checked all the settings on my iPhone to ensure they are identical to the other devices. I even deleted and re-installed the account on my iPhone. If it matters, our internet provider is Telus and we have a 4 gig family data plan which is never maxed out. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I assume "XXX@XXX.XXX" isn't an actual part of the message, and that's just your shorthand for "whomever I'm sending it to," correct? Am I also correct in assuming that receiving email is working properly to that account on your iPhone?

So you have an Islandnet POP account, but your provider is Telus -- that sounds like it might be the root of the issue. Double-check that your SMTP for that account (only) is the one for Islandnet, not Telus' SMTP. The current settings for this, according to Islandnet, is to be found here: https://hd.islandnet.com/view-article/1 ... ail-client

If that's not the cause, I'd suggest a call or email to Islandnet. Chances are good that the "SMTP port" needs to be changed, or that the account is identified as an IMAP account when it isn't one (but if you're going to use this account on multiple devices, I would *strongly* recommend switching the account to IMAP -- Islandnet can help you with that).

Thanks Chas,

Yes, the "XXX@XXX.XXX" was just a stand-in for the recipient's address and I had no problem receiving emails.
It was my outgoing mail settings. The Islandnet link gave me the info I needed. I think it was two things; SSL was not turned on and I had not entered a username or password for outgoing mail because it was labeled as optional. Islandnet says those must be entered and are not optional. Although our other mobile devices weren't having any problems I will update their settings just in case.

Thanks again,
