Database Program on Mojave

After installing Mojave my trusted FileMaker Pro (vs 12) no longer works on my MacBook Pro. Upgrading FM to a current version costs too much (subscription at min $20/mo) for the use I make of it. Thanks to an external backup I was able to salvage my four frequently used simple flat-file databases on Excel, but Excel is not suited for ongoing buildup of the databases as some of the fields need to be quite large (many words). Can anyone recommend a simple, reasonably-priced database program?

There are databases included in the OpenOffice and LibreOffice suites; I believe both of them are free (but large downloads).

Ninox (https://ninoxdb.de/en/ is $35. We've been using it for our club membership records, seems fine for flat-file type databases.
