Disk not ejected properly

Over the past few weeks I sometimes get this message in a window .... top let corner of my computer window.
It has happened on two other external drives as well.

Disk Not Ejected Properly
Eject "Time Machine" before
disconnecting or turning it off.

On checking all three external the back up data is in place.

What is causing this warning.

Regards,
Graham

Seems to me I have had that message unexpectedly with my camera connected to my iMac and fetching movie clips off the camera.

I think in my case, it was a question of walking away and letting the computer sleep, but I haven't really pinned it down.

Could that apply in your case?

You might have an energy saver setting that says "set hard drives to sleep when possible" -- uncheck that if you do. You may also wish to change the setting so that the computer sleeps much more rarely, but the display will go to sleep at the normal interval you want.

Some drives will power themselves down to save energy if the original manufacturer's software has been installed as well. Possibly that's the case here.

Thanks Charles.... Unchecked " Put hard disk stop sleep when possible" As this is a new putter.... it must have come with that turn on.
