divX messages

I am getting a message on my ol Macbook pro to update something called divX and while looking at this, I see it recommends Mackeeper, which I have clearly understood to be bad. I have a seven year old machine and don't know where or when divX came to be there on my machine. Should I dump dviX? Any tips on getting rid of it? Thanks for any help.

I sure can't say how important DivX is these days but I just checked my own iMac and had version 1.3

Rather than go to a questionable website, I started from System Preferences > DivX and clicked on "check for updates". It told me there was a 1.5 version available and let me update now. That put the new DivX Player and DivX Converter as well as a DivX folder into my Applications folder. It also seems to have removed the DivX icon from my System Preferences as the new folder contains it own "DivX Preferences" which seems to do what the old System Preferences > DivX thing used to do.

Hopefully someone who really knows about this application will way in on whether I should have left things untouched.
