e-mails being trashed

Over the past few weeks I have the impression that emails are being sent to trash with no action from me.
This happened today as I was reading one.... suddenly it is gone from sight. I did nothing .... just reading it.
Going to mail preference, I checked the settings...
So what is causing the emails to be moved to Trash.....

Is this a POP account or an IMAP account? Are you reading the emails each in their own window or in the "three pane view"?

These screenshots you included (thank you!) look very little like mine ... what OS version is this? Who's the email provider?

When you go to the provider's webmail portal, are the messages still there?

******** IMAP account, with their own window.

******** See screen shot of the preference header. Maybe your are not up to date ... posting.php?mode=reply&f=4&t=784#

what OS version is this? Who's the email provider?
******** OS.... the latest version of High Sierra 10.13.3. I have an IP "Web Hosting Canada"

******** Yes.... The copy I am reading turns up in "my" Trash

Who has a huge dislike for High Sierra...
But then that is another subject for another day.

Because this is an email account hosted by a third-party provider, I'm not sure what is causing the issue. It appears that once you have "read" the email, it is going to trash, which of course shouldn't be happening. My suspicion is that you may have set up a "smart mailbox" of the sort I have, where the conditions are "messages from [account] that are unread," and of course then once you have read them they no longer show up in the smart mailbox because the status no longer matches the condition. Smart mailboxes can be distinguished from regular ones by having a "gear" icon next to their names (and being listed under "Smart Mailboxes" in the left-most column of Mail. Any chance that's what is going on?

You might also want to review your "rules" in Mail's preferences regarding this particular account. I can recreate the description of your issue perfectly by creating a rule that all emails NOT addressed to me properly go into trash, but then creating a smart mailbox that shows me all unread mails from that account including ones in trash. The unread ones show up, but disappear once I've read them.

Yes .... and it continues to happen. I have been watch and being very careful when opening a mail document. With in moments .... 5 to 10 seconds it simple disappears for site... I have narrowed it down to just few senders.... I can see no reason or consistent factor within any of these emails that would cause this to happen. They end up in Trash. I have lost two documents that have disappeared completely. They are in WebMail with my lP.

I know about "Smart Mailboxes" . I have 41 of them. ---- I have attached a screen shot showing (showing horizontal to save space).
Note the question on the markup.... Why does "WoodArt" not show up in the Trash

I have checked the "rules" . There are no preference set that would direct an email to trash.

LASTLY. Marnie does not have any issues with her email.... Her's OS is Sierra
My take on the whole situation is ..... High Sierra OS is the problem. Ever since I upgraded (last fall) it has been problematic with numerous glitchy things. I did not record them wish I have.... and I will in the future.
To back up this statement.... Recently I took my computer to "Byte" and they mentioned that High Sierra has cause a lot of problems because of the security Apple build into the OS..

I would offer a Kings Ransom to go back to Sierra.

See my post on your other thread ... I am really pretty sure this particular problem has nothing at all to do with High Sierra. Further, I have checked to see if there are any other reports of this behaviour and cannot find any such claims, so I’m doubly reassured this problem is limited to your machine.
