Free MoneyWorks Accounting software

I thought there was a thread on the forum about accounting software but don't see it, so I'll start one. I have used MoneyWorks Express for many years (bought a used copy) for my own very small business needs, and my wife's retail business. It has been good, the accountant likes it (they will send accountants a free copy), but it is a bit of overkill for us as we operate only on a cash basis. It is an old version that, despite Cognito's (the developer) warning, has continued to work with OS upgrades. Recently they issued another warning that my version would not work with High Sierra. Long story short, I did not want to pay $250 for a new version of Express, or $27 a month to subscribe. I discovered that MoneyWorks Cashbook is free by "subscription". I guess they hope users will upgrade at some point. I downloaded a trial version of Express to convert my files to the newer standard, then opened them in the new Cashbook, and I'm done. (Before I could convert to Cashbook 8 I did have to download Express 7 trial and convert to that first, but no cost.) It works fine, does all I need it to and more. It's well worth a look for anyone otherwise contemplating Quicken or others. Cognito is a New Zealand firm that seems to be very professional, been around quite a while. Because New Zealand deals with a GST type tax, the software adapts very well for Canadian use. Anyone converting from other software will have to do some research to see how to handle that.
