Internet speed

I'm wondering if anyone can explain why the internet download speed for my iPhone is 10X faster than my :MBP. I'm using a Smart Hub from Telus which is supposed to produce up to 50 Mb per sec, and the iPhone is getting about 20 and the computer less than 2. I was sitting in the same chair when I ran the tests. I used a couple different test sites.

More information about the vintage of MBP would be helpful, but there's no reason I can think of that would explain that -- apart from two different networks being used. Double-check that both devices are on Wi-Fi and using the exact same network (remember that many routers now have two -- 2.4GHz and 5Ghz). Can you get readings from speedtest.net?

Can you try testing your two machines from an entirely different location with different networks to see if the discrepancy is the same? What happens if you use Ethernet directly for the MBP?
