My friend is setting up an ipad and iphone to work together. The Apple ID is the same on both now. BUT someone helped her set up her email an it is _____@me.com. When i go to set up her email on her new phone, I am not sure how to add the @ me account. When we look at her email, it seems the @me account is associated with her husbands gmail account? I know I am just not understanding how @ me accounts work. Can you help me understand this?

Any Apple email set up during the @me.com era also now works as @icloud.com, so you can use that version if you prefer. From your description, it sounds like she is either using her husband's Apple ID (and his username is that of a gmail address), or she used his gmail email address as her username. Apple accounts have nothing to do with gmail accounts on any other level, and that username (NAME@gmail.com) will continue to work *as a username to log into iCloud services* even if the husband/her no longer have the gmail address.
