pdf to excel

I have a need to convert pdf document to and excel document a few times.... (tax times) and wonder if there is a app out there that will accommodate this. Microsoft now wants an annual fee to enable this conversion... I use it so little every year so don't want to fork out the $$$$

The point of PDFs is that they are not really covertable or alterable. You can copy and paste the data into a new Excel or Numbers spreadsheet, but that’s the only free option I know of.
