Safari Issues

I hope that members will post a range of subtopics within this general topic. Below, I'll show mine.

Safari Can't Open the Page...can't establish a secure connection to the server

Safari on my MBP recently stopped opening a page that it used to open; Chrome on the MBP still opens it, Safari on another Mac and on my iPhone both open it. The page doesn't use SSL, and although there are minor issues with its certificate, I trust the site. For some reason, Safari on the MBP now insists on using the HTTPS protocol, which fails in the absence of SSL; if I replace HTTPS with HTTP in the address bar, Safari reverts to HTTPS.

I've tried many ideas that searching dredged up, but haven't found a resolution for this problem child. The site is http://www.jdfArtsCentre.ca.

This won't be helpful other than as a data point, but I just clicked on the link you supplied and it opened up immediately in my Safari 11.0.3 with the latest High Sierra on my 2017 iMac.

We obviously have some security setting different and if that would be helpful we can pursue it.

Thanks, Dave. Coincidentally, I got tired of the nagging and upgraded the MBP to High Sierra today, figuring that just maybe, the problem would get fixed. It wasn't, but your post has given me some ideas. Cheers!

What’s probably going on there is that at one point someone typed (or clicked on a bad link) for the https version, and now auto fill is assuming that’s what you want. Mail users are familiar with a similar problem if you ever mistype an email address.

The solution is also pretty much the same: try checking your bookmark for the site to see if it’s been mistyped as https; if not, try turning off autofill’s “other forms” checkbox and see if that clears the issue.
