If you are checking/managing mail on more than one device, you should be using IMAP. No, strike that -- you should be using IMAP in every instance of checking email, even if you only possess a single device. POP is from the very earliest days of the internet, and none of the major providers (Apple, Microsoft, or Google) even offer the option for very good reasons.
And just in case you haven't been following the story or seen my earlier posts on this topic, you need to be getting off Shaw email *entirely* as soon as possible. Shaw **IS** going to be a) acquired by Rogers, which doesn't offer email service, or b) acquired by someone else (like Bell) who will shut off Shaw email, or c) go out of business altogether (they have said the latter repeatedly) in the near future.
Transfer your primary email address for your online accounts and friends/family to another provider like iCloud.com, Outlook.com, or (if you must) Gmail.com. None of those providers are going anywhere in our expected lifetimes, and on top of that they all provide *vastly* better email services with larger capacity, worldwide access, and more.
