Sluggish Pages app

Late 2015 iMac, OS12.12.6, Pages version 6.2


I have a lot of trouble with Pages. I am writing a book and the application is running very sluggishly. I type and then have to wait for almost a minute for the computer to put on the screen what I input. It is very frustrating to say the least. I did not have this issue last year but the last few updates seem to have caused the problem.


Are there any tricks to get the program to work at the same speed as I do? I am not a fast typist by any means but should have to wait for several seconds to see what I have just input and it certainly disrupts the flow of writing.

Do you see a similar slow response in other word processors, or when you create a new document in Pages? Usually, that sort of slow response would indicate that the hard drive is having difficulty writing the file, often because the disk is nearly full. Also, how much RAM do you have on that machine, how much free space available?

Try saving your present file in .txt or Word format (both options in Pages) and see if it opens in TextEdit with the same slowness, and report back.
