New-to-me iMac working-in issues

Last season I was whining about how my 8 year old MacBook Pro was going geriatric, things sewing to a crawl...

Then my brother-in-law offered to perma-loan me this nice big 27 inch iMac.
Suddenly the world if full of hope again!
The MBP is mostly retired!

The iMac is a mid-2011 27" iMac
3.1 GHz Intel Core i5
Running El Capitan 10.11.6
I have added some ram, now at 12 GB.

I have transferred my files over from the old MBP and attempted to resolve most issues... except...
I have some residual issues.

Dropbox
Upon boot-up Dropbox says: "Couldn't start Dropbox. This is usually because of a permissions error." etc...
I have been clicking ok and not using Dropbox, but I should really fix this.

EEventmanger.app
Also, again on boot-up I get a dialog that says "Do you want the application "EEventManager.app to accept incoming network connections? Clicking deny may limit the application's behaviour..." etc.
I have been clinking 'Allow' and would like this to resolve permanently.

Lastly the iMac had "Macs Fans Control" installed when I got it. Over the last few weeks I have run the iMac both with and without the Macs Fan Control operating, and without, the fans run full speed and are really distracting. My brother had this machine into the shop just before he brought it over, so I am assuming it is pretty clean inside. The Macs Fan control has requested 2 or 3 updates recently as they have been working through issues with El Capitan.

Finally, and what prompted this post, really, is that this morning the iMac hung when awaking from sleeping. Just got a spinning beach ball over a black screen, had to reboot. I now realize this has now occurred a few times over the last month or two since I got this machine.
Any help with these issues would be greatly appreciated! (Are any Mac 'Genies' in Ladysmith?)

Cheers, happy rainfall...

Upgrade to Sierra.

It sounds like you did not erase/remove the previous owner's stuff/account, and instead transferred your data in addition to or on top of his account. I'd suggest (if you haven't done so already), completely erasing the machine, installing Sierra from the emergency boot drive, and then re-transferring your stuff.

Dropbox

Sync your local Dropbox folder to the cloud version, backup the local dropbox folder, then completely uninstall Dropbox. Once that is done, re-download the Mac app, log in, and your stuff will be restored.

It's leftover software you transferred from your old system that helps manage an Epson scanner. Do you still have this scanner? If not, delete (not hide) the app from your startup items in System preferences.

It's crapware. Uninstall it.

Christian Coll (and Sarah) live there, I'm not sure if they're doing service calls anymore, but I can check if the above doesn't fix the issues.

Cheers

I have updated to Sierra now, it took two big fat downloads to get up to date. ( I am backed up).
Attempting to print something, I got a message that Gutenprint 5.2 was incompatible - researched around a bit, downloaded an update and I can now print again. Seems like my Epson printer is\was being orphaned. I do use an Espson, 810 I think it is.

Having rebooted several times with the updates, and then I have been not running the Macs Fan Control crap-ware, the fan in this machine is running full speed constantly - even when not touching the machine. Can I do something about that?

My next step is to create an emergency boot drive - You're right Chas, I did not wipe the machine before moving my files over to it. I imagine creating a boot drive has been covered in previous tutorials on the listserve, but I am not clear how to find such. I have found the detail on the Apple site, and that will be my next adventure.

later edit ... when time allowed I have followed the process outlined on Apple site for iMac fan runs constantly, including sleeps, reboots, unplugging etc...computer is still blowing full speed at me today.
